At Industrial Commodities (Qld) Pty Ltd (“ICQ” or the “Company”), our aim and focus is to build a long-life, sustainable limestone (CaCO3) mining and processing operation near Gladstone. Over the next few years we intend to establish one or more open-pit limestone mines on our 211-hectare granted mining lease at Fairview cattle station, 20 kilometres from the industrial city of Gladstone. The proposed Fairview limestone project mining and quarrying operations will produce crushed and screened limestone across a diverse product range, including kiln rock feed, agricultural lime, a range of quarry and civil products, and construction-grade aggregate.
The Company was established by two experienced exploration and mining company directors Mr Andrew Gillies and Mr Adrian Day, both geologists, for the express purpose of acquiring, exploring, developing and mining industrial mineral projects (notably limestone, dolomite, magnetite, silica and industrial sand, and extractive quarry material) in Queensland. The Fairview Limestone (Gladstone) Development Project has become the sole project and focus for ICQ.
ICQ will also work with technology and offtake partners in to the feasibility of adding substantial value to the high grade limestone portions at Fairview, by converting the mined and crushed limestone (CaCO3) to burnt lime calcium oxide (CaO), a high value industry product. To achieve this, ICQ with established partners will use the latest most efficient technologies available, such as the proven electric shaft flash kiln (ESFK) technology to convert high-grade limestone into burnt lime (CaO), and capturing the resulting CO2 for liquefaction and sale.
Replacing conventional lime kilns (using fossil fuel combustion heating) with electric heating — supplied predominantly from established large scale solar and wind generation nearby — gives the project two material structural advantages over conventional coal- and gas-fired kilns: firstly, the capture of CO2 and therefore much lower exposure to carbon pricing; and secondly, a high-purity CO2 stream as valuable added revenue rather than vented.
The project is founded and built around the full use of a very well located, high-grade cryptocrystalline limestone deposit: every tonne of limestone mined and processed is intended to generate revenue, whether as crushed and screened limestone products, burnt lime CaO, or captured CO2, with no mined or processed product or bi-product material left unsold. On this basis, ICQ intends to establish itself as a significant and sovereign supplier of mined, crushed and screened quarry rock limestone products, and subject to feasibility and local market studies, a sustainable, low-emission lime CaO and liquefied CO2 producer into Central Queensland’s industrial, mining, metal processing and agricultural markets.
